2025 Fully-Funded Recording Residency Application

FFRR Dates

Monday, August 25 - Saturday, August 30

 Looking Glass Arts Mission Statement

Looking Glass Arts is an artist-led non-profit residency organization in Upstate New York democratizing access to the space, time, and natural beauty critical to artistic growth and practice. Our programming prioritizes people of the Global Majority; artists who make up the bedrock of our cultural lives.

About the Fully-Funded Recording Residency

This residency is offered to a duo or a trio that will be recording their debut EP or album and will include mentorship throughout the process, at no cost to the artists.

Requirements for applicants to the Fully-Funded Recording Residency

  • Members of the group must be 21+

  • The group must be a duo or a trio

  • Have an album or EP’s worth of material ready to record

  • This should be your debut EP or album as a group

  • Welcome the guidance and advice from your mentors

  • The full group must be available for the entirety of the residency week, Aug 25-30

Things to Keep in Mind Before Applying

  • The barn does not have sonic isolation. The birds and the whims of the natural world around us may be heard on your recording

  • The group may be 2-3 people, no more

  • Recording in the barn is best suited for a group that wants to record live

  • Overdubs are possible but adding to already existing tracks is not the best use of the space

  • There is no piano in the barn

  • This year the FFRR is offered to a younger group, a group that has not yet released an album

  • This season’s FFRR will include mentorship

  • Mentors will guide the group from pre-session preparation through the post production process; shepherding the album to completion

  • The group will communicate with audio engineer, in advance of their residency, to work out the details of their session

  • The FFRR will include/reserve one day of the residency week for mixing, in order that the group can leave their residency at LGA with an initial mix of their record

  • There is a $500 honorarium for the group

  • You will need to bring your own hard drive for your recording session

Hospitality

  • A private bedroom in the Farm House (with a shared bathroom)

  • Three meals a day prepared by the resident chef

  • High speed fiber optic internet in the Farm House

  • The barn has no wi-fi or cell reception

  • Depending on each artist’s circumstances and individual need, we can discuss reimbursement for RT Amtrak tickets and/or cost of gas up to $100 per artist

This season LGA is scaling back our programming in order to develop our administrative infrastructure so that we can grow sustainably and better meet artists' needs in future years. This year there will be only one fully-funded recording residency. We will offer more recording residencies next year!
